Tasting Notes

    Neal Martin, April 2015,
    Score: 90-92

The Château Chasse-Spleen 2014 has a splendid nose in the making: lively and vivacious black fruit mixed with graphite and sous-bois, all well defined. The palate is ripe and delineation on the entry with its white pepper dashed black fruit, though I would like to see a little more nuance and precision develop on the finish by the time of bottling. This is a fine Chasse-Spleen in the making.

  • AG

    Antonio Galloni, April 2015,
    Score: 87-90

The 2014 Chasse-Spleen is lithe, pretty and understated in this vintage, with lovely detail to match its mid-weight personality, but a bit less in the way of depth. Flowers, raspberries, blood orange, sweet spices and mint inform the gracious finish.

  • JS

    James Suckling, March 2015,
    Score: 90-91

I like the texture and savory character to this wine with silky tannins and juicy fruit. There are currants and chocolate flavors too.

  • DC

    Decanter, April 2015,
    Score: 90

Well-expressed cassis nose. The fragrance carries onto the palate to a firm yet elegant finish. As usual a classy Moulis. Drink: 2018-2028

  • MJ

    Matthew Jukes, May 2015,
    Score: 17+

Rich and sporting serious depth as well as decent plump fruit this is a well made wine with tension and freshness under the not inconsiderable depth of red and black fruit. Worthy of cellaring for a minimum of eight years, this is a cracking, wine with great style and bravado even though the tannins sail close to the wind!

  • WS

    Wine Spectator, April 2015,
    Score: 88-91

A gentle, elegant style, with black cherry and Campari notes that flesh out slowly in the glass, picking up hints of bittersweet cocoa and loam through the finish.

Producer

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.

Region

Moulis

Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
