  • Burghound, April 2015, Score: 89

A markedly earthier nose displays additional notes of attractively fresh plum and dark currant aromas. There is good volume as well as solid delineation to the supple and vibrant flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the ever-so-slightly drying finish. It's not clear whether the dryness, even though slight, is from mildly under ripe tannins or the sulfur addition from the recent bottling. My score offers the benefit of the doubt and I would advise drinking this on the young side as it's quite forward. Drink 2017+

  • Julia Harding, January 2015, Score: 16.5

Light to mid crimson. Scented and very pretty on the nose and a slight stemmy freshness. Dry, refined tannins, juicy and scented on the mid palate. Superior to the Bourgeots but not sure it is worth such a premium over the less expensive wine even though the structure and depth indicate longer ageing potential. Drink 2017-2023

It is now under the careful management of Chisa, the late Patrick Bize’s wife, and Marielle Grivot, Patrick’s sister. They like to continue his practice of whole bunch fermentation and gentle handling of the fruit during the vinification process. The result is always very stylish wines, which possess the sweetness of fruit and subtle core of tannins, which are such a character of the wines of Savigny.Read less

Region

Savigny-lès-Beaune

The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
