Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, Jul 12 2017

With just under half a hectare of this extraordinary Grand Cru vineyard in Vosne Romanee, the A-F Gros wine is an exquisite example of its volume, depth and texture endorsing Richebourg's great reputation. Deep opaque colour, this balances a melange of deep wild dark fruits, with hints of liquorice and spice. Beautifully layered with a delicious harmony of sweet but bright fresh fruit. Approachable now, but with great aging potential.

  • BURG

    Burghound, Apr 15 2015,
    Score: 92-94

This is riper than the Ech and not quite as fresh though there is excellent complexity to the layered aromas of plum, black currant and Asian style tea scents. On the plus side there is a slightly finer mouth feel even though there is clearly more size, weight, power and punch to the broad-shouldered flavors that also brim with dry extract on the velvet-textured finale that seems to go on and on. This is certainly structured but in the context of the appellation this is not imposing and as such, it will be approachable a bit earlier than what would be considered typical. Drink 2028+

Producer

Domaine Anne-Françoise Gros

The name Gros is one of the most famous in the Côte de Nuits, synonymous with great Vosne Romaneé. The original Gros domaine is now divided amongst four family members. Anne-Françoise, daughter of Jean Gros, married into another great Burgundy dynasty, the Parent family of Pommard. In 1998 François Parent and Anne Françoise combined their domaines to create a superb 10 hectare property comprising some of the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or. Today their children Caroline and Mathias run the estate, with Mathias ever experimenting and pushing boundaries in both vineyard and cellar.
