Goedhuis, December 2014
A real favourite of mine, the limited amount of topsoil creates a wine with real purity and refinement. Brilliant purple in colour, this wine is full of damsons and fresh strawberries. Great balance and a fabulously layered, classy finish. Top notch.

Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 89-92In contrast to the Clos du Jeu this is perfumed, fresh and markedly spicy with its aromatic profile that runs toward the darker end of the fruit spectrum. There is excellent volume and ample minerality to the more complex and mouth coating finish. While I doubt that this will be accessible immediately it should be approachable with only 4 to 5 years of bottle age. Drink 2021+

Domaine Charles Audoin

Rugby-loving Cyril is the 5th generation of Audoins in the commune of Marsannay, the Côte de Nuits’ most northerly appellation covering 400 hectares. Today Marsannay is rightly gaining the recognition it deserves as a fine source of high-quality red wines, not least thanks to Cyril’s efforts, amongst others. Indeed, the commune has 14 lieux-dits which have been proposed to the INAO for a long overdue upgrade to 1er Cru status. Whilst this might not be immediate, it reflects the respect that Marsannay and its best vineyards are rightly held in today.

Marsannay
The most northerly appellation of the Cote d'Or, Marsannay is also the only appellation authorised to produce red, white and rose wine. Only created in 1987, this is an interesting area where quality is improving. Top producers include Bruno Clair, Meo-Camuzet and Denis Mortet.
