Goedhuis, December 2014
One of Marsannay’s most respected vineyards; this is full of juicy dark black fruit aromas. In the mouth there is a noticeable generosity of fruit, mouth coating and richly textured, with a lovely feeling of warmth on the finish. A delicious example of the potential of the sadly often overlooked wines of Marsannay.
Burghound, January 2015,
This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood influence though it doesn’t impinge on transparency of the attractively floral and earthy dark berry fruit aromas that exhibit an interesting hint of spiced tea. There is both good energy and detail to the medium weight flavors that also exude a fine bead of minerality before concluding in a moderately austere finish. This should reward 6 to 8 years of cellaring though be accessible young too.Drink 2020+
Domaine Charles Audoin
Charles’s son Cyril has for years been instrumental in raising the quality and the reputation of the Marsannay appellation. With his new cellar now fully operational, he can realise the full potential of his excellent fruit grown in this underrated appellation. This domaine offers terrific consistency and excellent value for money in the northern Côte de Nuits.
The most northerly appellation of the Cote d'Or, Marsannay is also the only appellation authorised to produce red, white and rose wine. Only created in 1987, this is an interesting area where quality is improving. Top producers include Bruno Clair, Meo-Camuzet and Denis Mortet.
