Tasting Notes
-
Burghound, April 2015,
Score: 92-95This is aromatically quite similar to the Latricières if perhaps the wet stone component is a bit less prominent and this is also true for the equally pure, cool and restrained flavors that possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a firm, classy and gorgeously long finish. This is terrific though once again, it's pointless to buy this if you're not prepared to cellar it at least 8 to 10 years. Don't miss!
Producer
Lucien le Moine

Lucien Lemoine is the name of the micro-negociant operation founded by Lebanese husband and wife team Mounir and Rotem Saouma. Mounir used to live and work in a monastery but left to study Oeonology and pursue his passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Several years living and working in Burgundy helped Mounir learn the ropes while wife Rotem orientated her studies in Dijon towards wine. Mounir's time in the Cistercian monastery is the inspiration behind the name of their operation: 'le Moine' means monk in French and Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Lucien Le Moine sources exclusively premier cru or grand cru vineyard parcels and raises them in their vaulted cellars in Beaune, bringing a maximum of 100 barrels to the market each year.
Region
Griotte-Chambertin
Although the name Griotte-Chambertin comes from a word for a grill-pan inspired by the shape of the vineyard, locals and critics alike agree that there is an unmistakeable scent of cherries in this delectable wine. One of the nine Grand Cru vineyards to be found within Gevrey Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertins are wines of great power, complexity and longevity.
