Goedhuis, December 2014
Dense dark spiced wild berry fruits, this is an open and forward style but maintains the breadth for which the appellation is famed.
Burghound, January 2015,
(from Les Crais and La Croix des Champs, both of which are on the eastern side of D974). A more complex nose that is really quite pretty features notes of spicy dark berry fruit aromas along with hints of smoked game and a soft floral component. There is a textured palate feel to the sleek and delicious middle weight flavors thanks to the relatively fine grain of the supporting tannins, all wrapped in a minerally and mildly austere finish. Domaine Charles Audoin
Charles’s son Cyril has for years been instrumental in raising the quality and the reputation of the Marsannay appellation. With his new cellar now fully operational, he can realise the full potential of his excellent fruit grown in this underrated appellation. This domaine offers terrific consistency and excellent value for money in the northern Côte de Nuits.
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
