Tasting Notes

Neal Martin, December 2014,
Score: 91-93With around 30% whole bunch and matured entirely in new oak, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle Vieilles Vignes has a very harmonious bouquet, here the oak nicely enmeshed with the dark cherry and red plum fruit. The palate is sweet on the entry, but I find this more energetic and tense compared to the Corbeaux '13 with a sorbet-like finish. Very fine. Drink: 2018

Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 90-92(from a .32 ha parcel; vinified with ~35% whole clusters). As it usually is this is notably more elegant with it cool and airy nose of beautifully layered aromas that include mostly red berry fruit and floral notes along with hints of spice and sandalwood. There is a lovely mineral streak adding lift to the extract-rich, intense and powerful medium weight flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the balanced finale. This is actually slightly less structured than the Evocelles and would be the best bet among these 2013s to drink young. Drink 2021+

Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

Region
Gevrey-Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
