Burghound, January 2015, Score: 89-92
An attractively layered nose features notes of dark currant with plenty of earth and sauvage nuances adding breadth. There is good volume to the imposingly concentrated and textured middle weight flavors that possess excellent persistent on the lingering, austere and balanced finish where a touch of the stems used in the vinification is evident. This is old school in style and will best please those who enjoy robust and overtly muscular Gevrey 1ers.
Producer
Domaine J Confuron-Cotétidot
Yves Confuron runs this family domaine located in Vosne-Romanée, as well as making wines for Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. The wines of Confuron-Cotétidot are characterised by their amazing ability to age and develop. As well as some enviable Grand Cru parcels the domaine also has two hectares of the great Vosne Romanée Premier Cru Les Suchots.
Region
Côte de Nuits Villages
This communal appellation covers the vineyards of Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux, Comblanchien, and Corgoloin. Spread along the length of the Cotes de Nuits the wines of the different communes are, unsurprisingly, varied, reflecting a range of different exposures and nuances of soild type. The vast majority of production is red, with just a smattering of Chardonnay grown. The reds can offer very good value from the better producers.
