Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, December 2014

Sitting just below Le Chambertin, this is a very strong vineyard with its deep red soils and excellent exposure. With an abundance of wild dark fruits, this has huge levels of intensity, great breadth and a fine long finish.

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2015,
    Score: 93

(from 50+ year old vines that abut Griotte). This possesses the most complex nose in the range with its plethora of spice, menthol, earth, humus and very fresh assortment of dark berry fruit scents. There is excellent volume and punch to the sleekly muscular and powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess fine cut on the balanced and quite firm finale that delivers outstanding length. Unlike the Poissenot though this beauty is unlikely to drink well before at least 10 years have passed. Drink 2025+

Producer

Domaine Geantet-Pansiot

Taking its name from founders Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot back in 1954, this domaine has grown from 7 to 22 hectares under the direction of their son Vincent Geantet and his children Fabien and Emilie. Having outgrown their historical cellars, they invested in a new winery, and their wines show all the advantages that this additional space provides. Traditionally, they de-stem 100% of their fruit and allow the must a few days of cool maceration prior to fermentation starting, which enhances the colour and aromatic content of their wines. Through a combination of old vines (plenty of centenaries in their vineyards), sumptuous fruit concentration and generous new oak they make a hedonistic style of Burgundy.

Region

Charmes Chambertin

Charmes-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. On gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north, gravelly soil forces the vines to work hard. Relatively large for a Grand Cru appellation, it is hard to generalise about the wines. Often intensely perfumed and seductive, Charmes-Chambertin can be approachable earlier than its Grand Crus neighbours.
