Tasting Notes

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2015,
    Score: 90-93

A ripe, discreetly spicy and restrained cool red berry fruit nose displays notes of freshly turned earth, violet and sandalwood. There is excellent richness and overt power to the relatively refined medium weight plus flavors thanks to the fine-grained tannins that coat the mouth on the solidly long finish where a touch of wood surfaces. This is not super dense but it is well-balanced and should age well too. Drink 2024+

  • ST

    Stephen Tanzer, November 2014,
    Score: 92-95

(100% destemmed; in a one-year-old barrel): Medium red. Sappy aromas of red berries and dried rose. Juicy and suave in the mouth, boasting terrific definition to the flavors of red berries, flowers and pungent minerals. Wonderfully supple, perfumed Clos de Bèze with outstanding lingering perfume. This was vinified in the grower's cellar, with Pascal Marchand's instructions. Stunning potential. Drink 2026-2038

  • JH

    Julia Harding, January 2015,
    Score: 17.5

Refined, savoury dark fruit, becoming more fragrant in the glass. Elegant and embryonic on the palate, with a very fine dry texture. Dark cherry in a light restrained style. It would be hard to make a wine with such restraint anywhere but Burgundy, but there's length here and promise, even if I would not call it great value for money. Drink 2020-2035

Region

Côte de Nuits-Villages

This communal appellation covers the vineyards of Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux, Comblanchien, and Corgoloin. Spread along the length of the Cotes de Nuits the wines of the different communes are, unsurprisingly, varied, reflecting a range of different exposures and nuances of soild type. The vast majority of production is red, with just a smattering of Chardonnay grown. The reds can offer very good value from the better producers.
