Goedhuis, December 2014
For many this is the greatest of the Chambertin Grand Crus; it focuses more on subtlety and finesse and less on power than its neighbour Le Chambertin. This is a fine cuvée with a beautifully seductive mouth feel, natural ripeness and a soft long freshness, leaving a wonderfully long and complex aftertaste.

Neal Martin, December 2014,
Score: 92-94The 2013 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a backward nose at first, opening reluctantly with pure dark plum, briary and mineral notes, but keeping everything in fourth, rather than fifth gear. The palate is well integrated with the oak, touches of brown sugar tincturing the red cherry and raspberry fruit and leading to a nicely poised finish. This is one of the best Grand Crus from the domaine this year. Drink: 2018 - 2032

Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 93-95(from a parcel of 1.5 ha of vines planted in 1949). A ripe but brooding nose features aromas of spiced black raspberry, red currant and floral notes. The powerful, concentrated and distinctly earthy broadshouldered flavors possess plenty of muscle as the dense and firm mouth coating tannins will require at least 15 years to resolve. I very much like this very rich effort as it’s a Bèze of imposing size and weight along with explosive length yet it retains a fine sense of harmony and balance. Once again, note well though that patience is necessary. Drink 2028+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Region
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
