Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, April 2014,
    Score: 85-87

Chasse Spleen Appealingly pure subtle cherry nose, the palate sadly lacks substance and the wine just finishes rather coarse and ungracious.

  • NM

    Neal Martin, October 2016,
    Score: 84

The 2013 Chasse-Spleen has a reserved nose of raspberry, cranberry leaf and cedar, a hint of cola in the background with earthy tones becoming more evident with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy red berry fruit, tertiary in style with a rather lean, herbaceous finish that has decent length if not the requisite substance for a wine of this pedigree. Drink over the next 6 to 8 years.

  • MJ

    Matthew Jukes, April 2014,
    Score: 16.5+

Punchy, bright and firm with well-seasoned woodsmoke oak over quite bold, pumped-up fruit. Nice and brave and just about stays in balance. Dark cherry and spice. Needs 4+ years to settle down.

Producer

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.

Region

Moulis

Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
