Tasting Notes

  • NM

    Neal Martin, December 2014,
    Score: 91-93

Sadly, there is just one new barrel of the 2013 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru. It has a feminine, detailed bouquet where inevitably the new wood is going to be more conspicuous than the les Amoureuses. The palate is candied on the entry with touches of coconut infusing the mixture of red and black fruit. There is an appreciable density here, although I prefer the more suave les Amoureuses this year. Drink 2019-2037

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2015,
    Score: 91-94

An unusually elegant mélange combines notes of red currant, plum, violets and moderate earth influence. The more mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding intensity and fine power and punch that continues onto the balanced, mouth coating and wonderfully lengthy finish and overall this is a highly appealing combination of power and refinement. This is not exactly a wine of finesse but as the typical Bonnes Mares goes, this is certainly elegant. Drink 2022

Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
