Tasting Notes
-
Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 93(from vines first planted in 1902; 50% whole clusters). There is a background application of wood on the brooding nose that is also intensely floral with a broad array of spice notes to the black raspberry, cassis and exotic tea aromas. This is a big and very concentrated effort that is overtly powerful with the same density and extract that does a similar job of buffering the firm but not hard tannic spine on the textured and palate staining finish. This sleekly muscular effort isn’t quite as refined but it’s impressive all the same. Drink 2024+
Producer
Domaine Perrot-Minot

Domaine Perrot-Minot has 20 acres under vine. A family run domaine, established in 1963 and now run by Christophe Perrot-Minot, it prouduces 18 wines including nine Premier Cru and two Grand cru bottlings. Most of the vines are of a good age (13 of the 18 bottlings are 45+yrs old "Vieilles Vignes".) As a firm believer in noninterventionist winemaking, Christophe uses no chemical fertilisers, employs a green harvest to bear only six to seven bunches per vine, and both harvests and sorts by hand. Each wine receives 30%-60% new oak (depending on its cru status), ages for 14-18 months and is bottled without fining or filtration.
Region
Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
