Burghound, January 2015, Score: 93
Here the expressive and complex nose is more deeply pitched with humus and underbrush notes adding breadth to the mostly dark berry fruit suffused and green tea aromas that also display plenty of sauvage character. This is both bigger and more concentrated than the Charmes with good muscle and punch to the detailed and intense finish that delivers excellent persistence. A classic Mazoyères of focused power and muscle. Drink 2024+

Mazoyéres Chambertin
Mazoyères-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on gravelly soil of no more than 30 to 40 cm in depth over the bare rock below. It is sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Mazoyères-Chambertin is lighter and more rounded than other Grand Cru Gevreys. The appellations of Mazoyères-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin can be used interchangeably.
