Tasting Notes
-
Burghound, January 2015,
Score: 93A still reticent but wonderfully spicy nose features ripe scents of plum, dark currant and dried flowers. There is a sophisticated mouth feel to the intense and big-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a wonderfully long, powerful and palate staining finish that presently displays moderate austerity. This should be terrific but I underscore that once again plenty of cellar time will be required. Drink 2026+

Julia Harding, January 2014,
Score: 17+Deepish cherry red. Rather closed on the nose at the moment, just a little savoury and a hint of oak on dark fruit with a light note of vanilla. More revealing on the palate, still with dark fruit, and remarkably rounded, fine-grained tannins. A savoury finish and good length. Not a charmer at the moment. Give it time. Drink 2018-2027

Region
Grands Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
