Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 91-93
The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cherbaudes comes from 0.67-hectares of vines planted in 1940. It has a very attractive bouquet with fresh raspberry, Tiptree strawberry jam, light bergamot scents and great delineation. The palate is smooth and silky. This is a more opulent take on the 2012 from Jean-Marie Fourrier, but still well defined with a harmonious, seductive finish adorned with a tang of marmalade on the aftertaste.

Burghound, January 2014, Score: 91-93
A strikingly layered nose combines notes of both red and black cherry with hints of spice, earth, humus and animale notes. The very generous middle weight flavors manage to retain a fine sense of tension and detail before culminating in a beautifully intense, balanced, long and saline-inflected finish. This is a seductive wine of volume but it’s the excellent depth that really distinguishes it. Drink 2022+

Jancis Robinson, January 2014, Score: 17.5
Close to Clos de Bèze. Bright cherry red. Smooth, seductive, so so fruity nose. Very rich indeed and seductive. Beautifully polished. Really very glorious. Cool and fresh on the end. Hint of violets. Drink 2018-2028

He had learned from the best, most notably the late Henri Jayer of Vosne Romanée and Domaine Drouhin in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with whom he did his formative training. He is a keen participant in the growing trend towards minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. The domaine has a remarkable array of very old vines, many having been planted between the wars. The Fourrier wines are pure and balanced.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
