    Neal Martin, October 2015,
    Score: 93/100

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers from Maison Faiveley is more backward on the nose with woodland, tree bark aromas infusing the red berry fruit that gain intensity quite rapidly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, crisp acidity and a lively, quite peppery finish that has plenty of character. It lingers tenderly in the mouth long after the wine has departed. Bon vin. Neal Martin Score 93/100 Drink dates 2016-2035

Producer

Maison Joseph Faiveley

This Burgundian domaine of 120 hectares has been a family estate for more than 180 years. Erwan Faiveley, 7th generation, took the reins from his father 2 years ago when he was only 25. They have earned their reputation as one of Burgundy's finest and most trusted, with an unparalleledselection from the Côte de Nuits and Côte Chalonnaise. Domaine Faiveley owns some of the best slopes of the region with some located in Mercurey and Corton Grand Cru and Premier Cru. Following principles of strict quality control, the family produce great wines across thirty appellations in an elegant, graceful and well-structured style.

Region

Gevrey-Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
