Tasting Notes

  • AG

    Antonio Galloni, November 2014,
    Score: 94

A wine of contrasts, Dugat's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut St. Jacques is both silky and powerful, with fabulous intensity and exceptional overall balance. Dark red cherry, plum, spice and new leather find an explosive level of energy in a textural beautiful, compelling Burgundy endowed with magnificent pedigree. Clean, saline notes frame the close. Drink 2020-2034

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2015,
    Score: 93

For a wine that is often quite deeply pitched the nose is unusually high-toned with fresh aromas of pure red cherry and currant though there are undertones of earth present as well. There is fine verve and plenty of minerality to the generous and naturally sweet medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract that buffers well the moderately firm tannins that shape the balanced and textured finish. This is also really lovely. Drink 2023+

  • ST

    Stephen Tanzer, November 2014,
    Score: 92

Medium red. Musky, ripe red raspberry, coffee, smoke and stone on the nose. Lush, thick and sweet but with the opulent red fruit and spice flavors given shape by nicely integrated acidity. Chewier and larger-scaled than the premier cru, finishing with substantial ripe tannins and sweet spices. Drink 2023-2031

Gevrey-Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
