Neal Martin, December 2013,
The 2012 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is the largest cru, from 1.37-hectares of vines located in the upper mid-slope of the clos. It has a gorgeous bouquet with dark berry fruit, touches of dried violet petals and minerals that open in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins, plenty of finesse and superb tension on the citrus-tinged finish. Great length. Excellent.
Burghound, January 2015,
(from a 1.37 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines situated close to the Château; vinified with 25% whole clusters). A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off admirably pure aromas of various dark berries, pungent earth, floral and soft spice nuances. There is good power and volume but as with several wines in the range in 2012 the supporting tannins are notably fine and almost invisible at present as the abundant dry extract coats the palate and pushes the sense of structure to the background on the gorgeously long finish. This isn’t exactly robust but it is very firmly structured which together with the excellent power and punch make this is a seriously good effort. Drink 2027+
Domaine d'Eugénie was born following the acquisition of René Engel estate by François Pinault, alsoowner of Château Latour in Pauillac during the summer 2006. The estate is situated in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of La Côte de Nuits between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey Chambertin. This village is considered to be the treasure of big wines of Burgundy. The vineyard is about 6.5 hectares and extends onto the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot et Flagey-Echezeaux. The estate is managed by Frédéric Engerer who is the President at Château Latour in Pauillac.
