Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, May 2014

Beautifully perfumed aromas of vanilla pod and plum fruits. This is an intense and powerfully structured wine, with real weight and length. Full of power and depth.

  • NM

    Neal Martin, December 2013,
    Score: 94-96

Cropped at 10 hectoliters per hectare, the 2012 Clos-Saint-Denis Tres Vieilles Vignes, from vines planted in 1905, has a very intense, broody bouquet with intense blackberry and mineral scents that will need a few years to really unfold. The palate is medium-bodied, but like the nose; broody, powerful and intellectual with robust, saturated tannins and a gentle build to a convincing, persistency finish with a long mineral tail. Superb.

Producer

Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations.

Region

Clos de Vougeot

Clos de Vougeot is a Grand Cru appellation situated in the heart of the Cote de Nuits producing only red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. The vines are enclosed within a single walled vineyard built by monks in the 12th and 14th Centuries. With 47.54 hectares under vine Clos de Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru vineyard in the Cote d'Or.
