Goedhuis, January 2014
This higher altitude site was less sought after in previous generations, however recent warmer vintages have certainly favoured this naturally cooler location. Bright, full dark-cherried fruit, this is quite a wild brambly wine, whilst retaining a touch of finesse and a lightness in the mouth. This will age to show old Pinot flavours at their best...

Neal Martin, December 2013,
Score: 94-96The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras comes from 0.68-hectares of vines around 70-years old. It has a refined bouquet that contains the most finesse this year - just everything perfectly in place on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, very tense with life-affirming mineralité. The terroir is succinctly articulated and the finish is long and penetrating. This Les Cras has a structure that is almost severe, yet still compelling on its uncompromising stony finish. This is outstanding - but one for hardcore Chambolle aficionados!

Jancis Robinson, January 2014,
Score: 91-94This is perhaps a bit more deeply pitched than it usually is with dark rather than red fruit, with aromas that include black currant, dark cherry and plum. There is an almost palpable sense of minerality on the precise, intense and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess a suave yet firm mouth feel before concluding in a palate coating, saline and moderately austere finish. This should be excellent in time. Drink 2022+

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.
Region
Chambolle Musigny
The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
