Neal Martin, December 2013,
Score: 92-94The 2012 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a laconic stony, mineral bouquet with sea spray scents surfacing with time. The palate is very well-balanced with crisp acidity although at the moment the Bienvenue shows a little more finesse and precision. After five minute, there is a touch of spice that becomes more accentuated with time. As usual for this vineyard, it is reticent at the moment, perturbed why someone would awake it from its prenatal slumber, but this will be fascinating to watch age.

Burghound, June 2014,
Score: 92-95Mild reduction knocks down the nose but it seems reasonably clear that the underlying fruit is ripe. What immediately impresses about the broad-shouldered flavors is how fine they are which is not always the case with the typical Bâtard. This refinement only adds to the seductive palate feel of the extremely rich yet precisely focused, intense and strikingly long finish. 2012 should be a terrific vintage for this storied wine though note that plenty of patience will be required as I doubt that this will drink especially well young. Jancis Robinson, January 2014,
Score: 18.5Very clearly Bâtard! Broad and beefy. Big shoulders. Lots of acidity but masses of ripe fruit and substance too. Not a trace of simple sweetness but masses of dry richness and extract. No fatness or heaviness. A really magnificent vintage of this. Drink 2018-2030

Sarah Marsh, January 2014,
Score: 19.5This is rich with the sweetly intense citrus note of the vintage on the nose. Powerful and compact on the palate with plenty of acidity. A dense and compact wine; not overly rich, but certainly generous. Lots of energy. Very well balanced with warm minerality. A powerful long finish. Impressive Bâtard. Gosh they make good wine here… From 2019

Domaine Leflaive

"One of the greatest white wine domaines in Burgundy" remarked Clive Coates. Doamine Leflaive's vineyards in Puligny Montrachet are steeped in history and the current generation can look back to 1717 for the first Leflaive family occupation of the farm buildings that they use today. The domaine was founded by Joseph Leflaive, who came to Burgundy in 1905. Anne-Claude Leflaive, the granddaughter of Joseph was appointed to run the domaine in 1990. A fervent proponent of biodynamic viticulture, Anne-Claude converted the domaine to biodynamics. After her untimely death in 2015, Brice de La Morandiere's, Anne-Claude's nephew and great grand son of Joseph Leflaive took on the mantle. He upholds the terroir-orientated, sustainable winemaking philosophy of the family.
Region
Bâtard Montrachet
Bâtard-Montrachet is a great white Grand Cru in Burgundy's Côte D'or. Its vineyards are located onthe slope beneath Le Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune. Bâtard-Montrachet's soils are heavier than those surrounding it, made up of brown limestone and gravel, which pave the way for rich, nutty, honeyed and heady wines with good structure. They are not as elegant as those from Chevalier-Montrachet and are broader and weightier than wines from Montrachet.
