Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, December 2012

A pronounced wine with excellent purity, initially slightly deceiving then the natural backbone of Les Suchots comes through to create a wine of great complexity and length. Very fine indeed.

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2013,
    Score: 91-94

(20% whole cluster). An adroit application of wood frames equally restrained but more overtly spiced aromas of black fruit and high-toned floral nuances. This is richer and slightly more full-bodied though with less obvious minerality to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a silky texture, all wrapped in a more structured and even more persistent finish. This is one of the better young Hudelot Suchots in recent memory. Drink 2021+

  • JR

    Jancis Robinson, January 2013,
    Score: 17.5

Sleek and fruity and confident with the Vosne gloss on it. Pretty fine wine that should be very rewarding. Dry finish. But firm and convincing. Nothing forced. Drink 2017-2030

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.

Region

Vosne-Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
