Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, July 2015,
Score: 91A real star in any Voillot fligth. Bright strawberry red in colour, there are subtle hints of cinnamon spice and red fruits. A very mouth coating style, balancing breadth of fruit with a refined silky fruit texture. Gentle acidity and gorgeous sweetness on the finish. High class wine from this lower lying, but superbly positioned 1er Cru.

Goedhuis, December 2012
Volnay’s most central vineyard in the very heart of the village. It has produced a wine with appealingly complex wild strawberry fruit flavours and tremendous refinement with its fine scented finish.

Producer
Domaine Joseph Voillot

The Voillots have been winemakers for 5 generations. They produce 17 appellations from 35 parcels in 10 hectares across 4 communes including Pommard and Volnay. Since 1995, Joseph's hearty and jolly son-in-law, Jean-Pierre Charlot, has taken over the domaine. His personality makes it worth the trip alone. Utterly sincere and fantastically funny, we always leave with a smile on our face. Luckily the wines are superb as well - terroir-driven, classically styled and silky - they are hallmarks of top quality Côte de Beaune reds.
Region
Volnay
A red wine appellation only, wines from Volnay might be considered the most revered of southern Burgundy. They have been celebrated since the 18th century for their delicacy. But they are not fruit forward like those of Beaune or Chorey Lès Beaune nor have the brooding structure of Pommard.Instead, they have superb linearity, focus and poise while sheathed in velvety tannin. This slightly reticent personality comes out even more with a bit of age, though some can be approached very young. There are no grand cru vineyards in Volnay, but there are some excellent premier cru examples including Volnay Les Champans and Volnay Les Caillerets. Chardonnay grown in the shared Santenots vineyard must be labelled as Meursault.
