Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, November 2012
The very precise crisp dark berry fruit aromas follow into the palate. This is a direct and intense style of wine selected from three different vineyard locations in the heart of Chauvenay. A wine with good mid-term ageing potential.
-
Robert Parker, December 2012,
Score: 90A brilliant, seductive, gorgeous offering is the 2011 St.-Joseph. Its deep ruby color is accompanied by plenty of strawberry, crushed rock and spring flower notes intermixed with a mineral component. A luscious texture as well as a forward, evolved style suggest consumption over the next 4-5 years is warranted. Drink 2012 - 2017.
-
Jancis Robinson, February 2013,
Score: 16Mid ruby. Complex sappy savoury nose with some energy. Transparent. Not forced. With a little bruised plum fruit character. Chewy finish. No compromises. No sweetness. Drink 2014-2018

Producer
Domaine André Perret

André Perret needs little introduction: he is the master of light-footed, complex Viogniers from the granite soils of Condrieu. The appellation is known for its rich, mouth-coating whites best drunk in their youth, although André’s sophisticated, expressive examples also have the potential to age well in bottle too. The 13 hectare domaine includes 5 hectares in Condrieu and 5 hectares in St Joseph, and his close-knit, peppery, herb-tinged St Joseph Rouge is excellent value and not to be missed, as is his pithy St Joseph Blanc.
Region
St Joseph
St Joseph is the longest appellation in the Rhone, extending along the western banks of the Rhône river from St. Péray to Condrieu. It produces both red wine from Syrah and white wine from Marsanne and/or Roussanne which tends to be early drinking and can be traditional or modern styled depending on the producer. Created in 1956, St Joseph is a young appellation which has seen extensive expansion of its vineyard area over the last 25 years. As a result, many producers feel that there is great potential in the quality of its terroir which has yet to be discovered. Due to its lesser known status, St Joseph wines often provide excellent value for money.
