Goedhuis, December 2012
Recognised as the coolest vineyard in Puligny, La Garenne excelled in 2011 balancing a vibrant citrus freshness with soft honeyed brioche flavours. A generous and rewarding wine with excellent length.
Burghound, June 2013,
There is a subtle touch of wood to the ultra-pure and fresh aromas of cool white orchard fruit, floral, spice and citrus nuances. There is good vibrancy to the round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with good levels of dry extract before culminating in a lightly mineral-inflected finish that again offers fine if not truly distinguished depth on the lingering finish. Drink 2016+ (barrel samples)
Jancis Robinson, January 2013,
Cool and crunchy with some energy. Very cool. But satisfying. Just a bit expensive but good length. Drink 2014-2018
Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Etienne Sauzet is one of the great estates of Puligny Montrachet, taking its name from current incumbent Emilie Riffault's great grandfather who founded this domaine in the early 1900s. It boasts 15 hecatres of vineyards, comprising four white grands crus in Puligny and Chassagne and nine premiers crus. Today, under Emilie and husband Benoit's direction, their owned vineyards are fully biodynamic and they are one of the flag bearers for the appellation of Puligny.
Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
