Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, December 2012

Ripe acacia honey aromas, a very pure style starting off with real finesse and then the noticeable weight and power of flavours come through to produce a wine of real integrity and depth. A Grand Cru with huge potential.

  • BURG

    Burghound, June 2013,
    Score: 92-94

Somewhat curiously for such a cool terroir the nose displays overt exotic aromas that include dried peach, apricots and mango, all of which is trimmed in noticeable wood. There is superb intensity to the chiseled middle weight flavors that seem to be composed of liquid stone before terminating in a bone dry, linear and balanced finish. This is a combination of power and finesse. Drink 2019+ (barrel sample)

  • JR

    Jancis Robinson, January 2013,
    Score: 17.5

Great tension. Almost Riesling-like (no greater praise…). Wonderful mix of ripeness and acidity. Definitely riper than most. Drink 2015-2023

Producer

Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger

Michel Colin-Deléger is the third generation of his family to be involved in winemaking. Inheriting vines in the Chenevottes vineyard in 1987 from his uncle, Georges Deléger, he is now one of the best Chassagne-Montrachet producers. Having expanded, he has many more interests in the region, where he continues his careful winemaking, with his characteristic early bottling (to ensure acidity is retained and the freshness shows through). The common style amongst his complex wines is to have plenty of ripe fruit aromas on the nose and concentrated flavors. In 2005, Michel's sons Philippe and Bruno decided that they wanted to embark on their ownwinemaking ventures. The family divided up the 20-odd vineyard plots from which Colin-Déléger had been making exceptional wines for many years. Michel Colin kept only three - his favourites - which he will continue to work as long as he is physically possible. Keeping with the original Colin-Déléger style, his wines are ample and ripe with additional toastiness from his masterful use of oak barrels of which one-third are new. We are delighted to be the exclusive UK agents for this domaine. Michel is in so many ways a true hero of ours who consistently produces some of the most exciting wines in the world.

Region

Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is a tiny Grand Cru appellation for white wine situated on the stony slopes just above Le Montrachet towards the southern end of the Cote d'Or. The wines are exceptional, if slightly lighter in style than their neighbour down the hill.
