Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2012
Rich, full and concentrated, this is a stunning Grand Cru.A big, broad shouldered wine with layers of black berriedfruit flavours, the tannins are very fine and the gentleacidity provides a deliciously uplifting finish. Very good.
-
Jancis Robinson, January 2013,
Score: 17.5Textured and quite sumptuous even if without the casual supremacy of Rousseau. A little dry on the end. But very hard working. And with crunchy density. Drink 2018-2032

Maison Roche de Bellene

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.
Region
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
