Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, April 2012,
    Score: 85-86

Aromatic floral fruits, this is a well structured wine with subtle earthy terroir flavours. Not a big wine but refreshing and open in its style.

  • RP

    Robert Parker, April 2012,
    Score: 85-87

I had some sample variation when tasting this wine, but at its best, it is a medium-bodied, straightforward Medoc displaying classic herbal and black currant notes as well as light but noticeable tannin in the short finish.

  • DC

    Decanter, April 2012,
    Score: 16.5

Attractive fragrance of summer berries, clarity and vigour plus elegance, balance and potential. Drink 2015-2025. (4 stars).

  • JR

    Jancis Robinson, April 2012,
    Score: 15.5

Deep dark crimson. Sweet, fresh and perfumed red fruit on the nose. Fresh but a bit disappointing on the palate. Plays the fresh fruit card well but perhaps rather slight and dry overall. Drink 2016-2024.

  • WS

    Wine Spectator, April 2012,
    Score: 84-87

Open knit, with bing cherry and mulled strawberry notes and a slightly airy finish. A bit too soft and light in the end.

Producer

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.

Region

Moulis

Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
