  Undoubtedly one of the wines vying for wine of the vintage in my books. A full page of notes hardly do it justice. The strong black berried fruit flavours are immediately striking; this is succulent and rich with hugely layered flavours. An exceptional wine, because of its total completeness. It is complex, fresh, harmonious and very very long. Exceptional in every way.

  (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in Richebourg proper). Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the bigbodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+

Here the ever-so-slightly riper nose displays a restrained combination of red currant and plum aromas that also offer an intense spiciness. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like this. 2025+

Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.
