    Beautifully, broad, rich and opulent, everything Aux Thorey should be. The great fullness of palate creates a punchy and yet rounded wine. The gentle, ripe tannins combine to create a perfectly balanced wine with fine length and complexity.

An earthy and admirably pure nose speaks primarily of red currant and cherry liqueur nuances that lead to rich, concentrated and expansive medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate yet the supporting tannins are clearly Nuits St. Georges in character. The focused and linear finale possesses excellent length and very impressive complexity. Fine aging potential here. 2018+Comments: outstanding!

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
