Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, December 2011
2010's intensity takes itself to another level with Michel's Chevalier. Exuberant yet verypowerful, this offers a plethora of layers that range from sweet orange peel, toasted almonds, earthy spices and ripe pear. The prominent structure and impressive acidity level carries it to a firm, long finish.

Burghound, June 2012,
Score: 94A very mild trace of reduction sits atop otherwise pure and attractive aromas of acacia blossom, stone and lightly spiced pear. The rich but well-detailed flavors possess almost painful intensity while terminating in an explosive and bone dry finish that exudes a sense of classiness. There is a touch of wood on the mouth coating finish but I suspect that it will not be long before it is successfully integrated. Drink: 2018+.

Jancis Robinson, January 2012,
Score: 17More obvious smokiness on the nose than on the Demoiselles. Very tight but a little more formulaic than the Demoiselles. Good lift and density but the lemon and oak are a teensy bit obvious. Drink 2015-2022

Producer
Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger

Michel Colin-Deléger is the third generation of his family to be involved in winemaking. Inheriting vines in the Chenevottes vineyard in 1987 from his uncle, Georges Deléger, he is now one of the best Chassagne-Montrachet producers. Having expanded, he has many more interests in the region, where he continues his careful winemaking, with his characteristic early bottling (to ensure acidity is retained and the freshness shows through). The common style amongst his complex wines is to have plenty of ripe fruit aromas on the nose and concentrated flavors. In 2005, Michel's sons Philippe and Bruno decided that they wanted to embark on their ownwinemaking ventures. The family divided up the 20-odd vineyard plots from which Colin-Déléger had been making exceptional wines for many years. Michel Colin kept only three - his favourites - which he will continue to work as long as he is physically possible. Keeping with the original Colin-Déléger style, his wines are ample and ripe with additional toastiness from his masterful use of oak barrels of which one-third are new. We are delighted to be the exclusive UK agents for this domaine. Michel is in so many ways a true hero of ours who consistently produces some of the most exciting wines in the world.
Region
Chevalier Montrachet
Chevalier-Montrachet is a tiny Grand Cru appellation for white wine situated on the stony slopes just above Le Montrachet towards the southern end of the Cote d'Or. The wines are exceptional, if slightly lighter in style than their neighbour down the hill.
