Robert Parker, February 2013, Score: 90
The wine is lush, succulent, and a hedonist's dream, as the fruit is ripe, fleshy and displays plenty of red and black nuances along with hints of spice box and Christmas fruitcake. It is a medium to full-bodied, unpretentious wine that satisfies the palate, pleases the olfactory senses, and lingers in the mouth. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. Consistently one of the most seductive wines made in just about every good vintage in St.-Emilion, yields at La Clotte were low in 2010 (29 hectoliters per hectare), and the final blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc boasts 14% natural alcohol.Drink: 2013-2025

Robert Parker, May 2011, Score: 91-93
One of the more seductive wines of St.-Emilion, La Clotte is always delicious with sweet tannins and lots of plump fruit. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2010 reached 14% alcohol naturally. Delicious kirsch liqueur, sandalwood and black currant characteristics along with soft, velvety tannins and a luxurious finish are found in this full-bodied effort. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.Drink: 2013-2026

Decanter, April 2011, Score: 16.5
Accent on the fruit. Fragrant cherry-raspberry aromas and flavour. Palate round on attack then long and persistent. Drink 2016-2028.

Wine Spectator, April 2011, Score: 90-93
Broad-shouldered, showing lots of fruitcake, crushed fig and plum sauce notes, with extra flashes of spice and incense on the finish. Dense, but shows definition and purity. -J.M.

Region
St Emilion
South of Pomerol lies the medieval, perched village of St Emilion. Surrounding St Emilion are vines that produce round, rich and often hedonistic wines. Despite a myriad of soil types, two main ones dominate - the gravelly, limestone slopes that delve down to the valley from the plateau and the valley itself which is comprised of limestone, gravel, clay and sand. Despite St Emilion's popularity today, it was not until the 1980s to early 1990s that attention was brought to this region. Robert Parker, the famous wine critic, began reviewing their Merlot-dominated wines and giving them hefty scores. The rest is history as they say. Similar to the Médoc, there is a classification system in place which dates from 1955 and outlines several levels of quality. These include its regional appellation of St Emilion, St Emilion Grand Cru, St Emilion Grand Cru Classé and St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, which is further divided into "A" (Ausone and Cheval Blanc) and "B" (including Angélus, Canon, Figeac and a handful of others). To ensure better accuracy, the classification is redone every 10 years enabling certain châteaux to be upgraded or downgraded depending on on the quality of their more recent vintages.
