Goedhuis, December 2010
This is Gerard Boudots favourite wine in his 1er Cru line-up. A wine which balances its clean vibrant citrus fruit aromas, with a full and creamy palate. Quite a powerful wine with wonderful layers of fruit and a great long finish.
Burghound, February 2012,
Very mild wood influence allows the notably ripe aromas of white peach, pear liqueur and acacia blossom aromas to shine without any material hindrance. The rich, powerful and impressively concentrated large-scaled flavors possess an opulent yet fine mouth feel along with a palate staining, explosive and hugely long finish of almost painful intensity. As it often does at this address, the '09 Sauzet Combettes delivers grand cru level quality. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink 2015+
Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Etienne Sauzet is one of the great estates of Puligny Montrachet, taking its name from current incumbent Emilie Riffault's great grandfather who founded this domaine in the early 1900s. It boasts 15 hecatres of vineyards, comprising four white grands crus in Puligny and Chassagne and nine premiers crus. Today, under Emilie and husband Benoit's direction, their owned vineyards are fully biodynamic and they are one of the flag bearers for the appellation of Puligny.
Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
