Tasting Notes

  • BURG1

    Burghound, January 2011,
    Score: 94-97

A fantastically complex nose offers up aromas of rose petal, violets, mint, cassis, black berry and a plethora of spice nuances that continue onto the intense and remarkably powerful imposingly constructed flavors that are blessed with buckets of dry extract that render the presently rigid tannic spine almost invisible on the impeccably and palate staining finish that seems to persist without end. I could still taste this several hours later and if given sufficient cellar time, this should be one of the great vintages for this storied wine. Drink: 2026+.

As was the case from cask, I could still taste this several hours later and if given sufficient cellar time, this should be a very fine vintage for this storied wine. Drink: 2029+.

    Robert Parker, April 2012,

The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes fleshes out beautifully with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate in stunning style. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive dark red fruit in this mysterious, evocative Burgundy. There is a weightless intensity to the Musigny that is achingly gorgeous. Waves of flavor continue to build towards the sexy, racy finish as the 2009 shows off its pedigree. The 2009 will always be an exuberant Musigny, but time in bottle will help shed some of the baby fat. This is likely to be a great, great wine for several decades. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.

Producer

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

This domaine can trace its history back over 500 years. It has been in the hands of the same family which is now in its 20th generation.George's grand-daughters Clare de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are the family members presently involved.Currently the wine is overseen by Francois Millet as winemaker and Eric Bourgogne as chef de vignes. The vineyards spread to 12.5 hectares. They, amazingly, adapt their techniques depending on the conditions of the particular vintage, and rather disparage those who have a single "best" technique every year. This, hopefully, allows a purer expression of the raw material and vintage.

Region

Le Musigny

Le Musigny is a red Grand Cru vineyard based in Burgundy’s Chambolle Musigny village in the Côte de Nuits. Le Musigny is situated between the scrubland at the top of the slope and the upper section of Clos de Vougeot on well-draining limestone soil. The wines of Le Musigny are some of the best in Burgundy on a par with those of Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
