Goedhuis, January 2011
An extraordinarily rich nose that opens up with layer after layer of dried fruits, sweet red cherries, brown sugar and earthy spice. The palate lures one in through its almost decadent velvet layers. Slightly firm on the finish, this looks to be an enticing Clos de la Roche that will enthrall.

Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 97-99
Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. This is garlanded with an absolutely stunning bouquet, so pure and perfumed with blueberry, cassis, orange essence, fresh apricots and umeboshi. Brilliant definition. The palate is medium-bodied with intense dark cherry fruit vying for attention against the vibrant mineralité that lends so much precision on the finish. The freshness belies the power. Extraordinary length and persistency, this is a breathtaking Pinot Noir.

Burghound, January 2012, Score: 96
This impressively complete wine offers up very ripe aromas of spice, earth and game that introduce strikingly rich, naturally sweet and mouth coating big-bodied flavors that explode on the formidably long finish. This is a classy wine with absolutely superb complexity, impeccable balance and almost uncanny presence, all delivered with grace and power. Be prepared to be patient however as this will need plenty of time. A ‘wow’ wine that possess excellent verve, especially within the context of the ’09 vintage. 2029+.

Burghound, January 2011, Score: 96-98
This, along with the Clos St. Denis, is the most complete wine in the range with mild reduction that isn't strong enough to completely block the spice, earth and game infused nose that introducesstrikingly rich, naturally sweet and mouth coating flavors that explode on the formidably long finish. This is a classy wine with absolutely superb complexity, impeccable balance and almost uncanny presence, all delivered with grace and power. Be prepared to be patient however as this will need plenty of time. A ‘wow' wine.

Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 18
Real race and nerve. Luscious and fruit packed and like a cherry sundae. For the moment there is a lot of structure but you can easily imagine how this will resolve into something really exciting. He rejects this barrel as too astringent and we try another! Which seems to me slightly green and oxidised. Solid, not up to yesterday's showing, he says.

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Region
Clos de la Roche
The finest and biggest Grand Cru red wine appellation in Burgundy's Morey-St-Denis, on the Côte deNuits, covering 16.9ha. Clos de la Roche's soils are rich in marl which gives more body, depth and ageing potential to its wines than most other vineyards. Wines from Clos de la Roche tend to be powerful and full bodied with black fruit aromas and flavours, developing rich, gamey characters with age.
