Goedhuis, January 2011
Succulent notes of sweet yellow plums, peaches and vanilla spice flesh out the palate of this round and opulent wine. Its oak is more apparent on the nose, but once it is integrated, it will have even greater depth of flavour and length.
Burghound, April 2011,
A highly complex and patently ripe nose offers up notes of black raspberry, plum and prune aromas that are in keeping with the equally ripe, rich, full and naturally sweet flavors that possess fine mid-palate sap that helps to buffer the firm, robust and mildly rustic finish that delivers moderate length. This is riper than I prefer. Drink: 2016+.
Domaine Tollot-Beaut et Fils
The wines of Tollot-Beaut are some of the best we taste every vintage. Uncomplicated, pure and fresh, they epitomize everything that we love about wines from the Côte de Beaune. In addition, their fleshiness and approachability makes them perfect for cynics who claim that Burgundy is not their cup of tea. The 22-hectare domaine has been family-owned for years. Today, the young, friendly and exceptionally bright Nathalie Tollot manages the domaine with her cousins. The wines are vinified fairly traditionally. About 40% of the crop is de-stemmed, though this varies depending on vintage. The wines are fermented in open-top wooden vats before being aged in oak barrels that are 10-50% new. Very lightly fined and filtered before bottling, the resulting wines are often opulent with noticeable density, always clean and superbly pure. Just wonderful Burgundy.
With its neighbours, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton has its own village and premier cru appellations but shares the two grand crus: Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majority of Pinot Noir is planted in thesouthern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from Aloxe-Corton tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
