Goedhuis, February 2011
Dick's Grand Vin, this 2008 is wonderfully powerful and velvety with notes of black cherries andwild raspberries laced with pencil shavings, cedar and spice. For the second vintage in a row, Homer received the highest score of any Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from the Wine Advocate.

Wine Advocate, Oct 2010, Score: 96
The flagship of Shea Vineyards is the Homer cuvee made from a blend of the best barrels in the cellar. The 2008 Pinot Noir Homer is dark ruby/purple in color with a breath-taking, multi-dimensional aromatic array of sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, rose petal, black cherry, and black raspberry that leaps from the glass. Super-concentrated, opulent, and Reubenesque on the palate, it manages to be light on its feet and powerful at the same time. With amazing balance and precision and a finish that lasts for over a minute, it is a candidate for wine of the vintage as well as a tour de force.

Since the late 1990s, Shea Vineyard has been the most famous and sought after terroir in the Willamette Valley. In 1989, Dick Shea, left Wall Street and decided to plant Pinot Noir in a then unknown sub-region of the Willamette Valley. He was either lucky or very savvy as his micro-climate has produced some of the most exceptional fruit of the region. Within a short time, the most famous wineries in the Willamette Valley such as Beaux Frères (Robert Parker’s own domaine) and Ken Wright, as well as the cult California producer, Sine Qua Non, began purchasing Shea’s fruit. All this led Jay Miller of The Wine Advocate to describe Shea’s clients as a "Who’s Who of Willamette Valley wineries". Growing some of the most exceptional grapes of the region is inspirational, so in 1999, Dick and his wife Dierdre decided to produce their own wines. When we first tasted their wines, we just loved them. Not that one should compare, but Oregon Pinot Noir is the closest we have found to Burgundy. Whilst in Dick’s cellar, we felt that a Burgundian comparison could be Sylvain Cathiard in Vosne Romanée as the wines displayed a similar finesse with notable complexity and a sweet core. Truly delicious.Read less
