Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, January 2008

Beaux Bruns is always Johnny's favourite cuvée as it is Ghislaine's richest and sexiest wine, nodoubt due to Beaux Bruns heavier terroir. Spicy with notes of orange zest and crunchy griotte cherry, the 2006 Beaux Bruns is round, fleshy, dense and ample - everything one comes to expect from this vineyard. Drink 2012-2020.

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2008,
    Score: 88-91

(from vines averaging 25 years of age). Here the nose is slightly more elegantand certainly finer with an equally high-toned red berry and cherry fruit-infused nose that complements the supple and round yet detailed, indeed almost delicate flavors that coat the mouth on the lacy and pure finish. This is not overly complex or concentrated but the mouth feel is striking. (88-91)/2012+

  • JR

    Jancis Robinson, January 2008,
    Score: 18

Lots of sweet red fruit, fragrant and lively. Deep pile smooth-grained tannins, then darker fruit. Determined and promises real charm with time. Drink 2012 - 2020.

Producer

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.

Region

Chambolle-Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
