Goedhuis, November 2008
Big and velvety, the 2005 fleshes out the palate with ripe, sweet brambles and cherries and its superfine tannins. It has exceptional balances between its lush fruit and subtle earthy notes of pencil lead and spice. Firm and focused, yet it maintains its sexy curves. Delicious.

Robert Parker, June 2015, Score: 87
The second wine, the 2005 Segla, is everything it should be – soft, round and seductive, with easygoing tannin, a suave, savory, medium-bodied mouthfeel, and an attractive fragrance of red fruits, underbrush and spice. The velvety lushness makes for easy appreciation, and the wine is capable of lasting another 7-8 years.

Within a short period of time, Rauzan Sègla became high on collectors lists rivallingLéoville, Gruaud Larose and Mouton Rothschild. One of its followers included Thomas Jeffersonwho purchased several cases of the 1790 vintage. Over the years it was divided and sold on to various owners falling deeper and deeper into oblivion until the 1980s when its old, wooden vats were replaced with stainless steel and excellent clones of Cabernet Sauvignon replaced the tired Merlot. In 1994, the château was taken over by Chanel who have continued this drive for quality.Read less

Region
Margaux
Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
