Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, January 2007
Vibrant with lots of character, this focused wine offers a mouthfilling palate and textured tannins. Finishes pure and fresh on lingering notes of black cherry and toasted spice. An excellent Clos de Vougeot.

Burghound, January 2007,
Score: 92-95Moderate reduction makes the nose tricky to read but the rich, full-bodied, intense and extremely powerful flavors possess palate saturating dry extract on the austere and forceful finish. This doesn't have the sleek muscularity and tension of the Bonnes Mares but if anything, there isarguably even better material here crafted in an old school style. Flat out superb and for fans of old school burgs, this is one to consider carefully. (92-95)/2019+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
