Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, April 2006,
    Score: 89-91

Heady with notes of ultra ripe raspberries, its palate is rich, chewy and long lived. Very 2005. Drink 2011 - 2020+.

  • RP2

    Robert Parker, June 2015,
    Score: 89+

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this is a relatively big 2005 and somewhat larger than usual for Chasse-Spleen. The wine offers fairly high tannin but ripe, concentrated fruit. Dense, youthful ruby/garnet in color, with notes of cassis, saddle leather and spice, this wine could use another several years of cellaring and should keep 15+ years. Drink: 2015-2030

  • RP1

    Robert Parker, April 2008,
    Score: 88

Deep plum/ruby-colored to the rim, the medium-bodied 2005 Chasse Spleen offers up aromas of smoke, damp earth, charcoal, black cherries, and currants. The tannins dominate at present, so purchasers should cellar it for 5-6 years, and consume it over the following two decades. Drink: 2013 - 2033.

  • RP

    Robert Parker, April 2007,
    Score: 88-90

A beautiful offering from this top-notch Moulis estate, the deep ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Chasse Spleen offers up scents of cassis, minerals, and flowers. Medium-bodied, moderately tannic, rich, and potentially outstanding, it should be at its peak between 2012-2020+.

  • WS

    Wine Spectator, April 2006,
    Score: 89-91

Lovely berry, spice and cherry character. Full-bodied, with fine yet chewy tannins and a long finish. Structured and well-formed.

Producer

Château Chasse-Spleen

For many years Château Chasse-Spleen was undervalued. Though its official classification is Cru Bourgeois, many specialists believe that Chasse-Spleen equals a third or fourth growth in quality.

Region

Moulis

Moulis is an appellation in the south of the Haut-Médoc in Bordeaux. There are many different soil types, including clay, gravel and limestone, which results in a variety of wine styles. Its wines offer good value for money and are generally well structured, often with some of the perfume of Margaux to the east.
