Tasting Notes
-
Burghound, January 2007,
Score: 93-95A surprisingly high-toned nose that is almost aggressively floral with a cool and reserved character that introduces chewy, focused and linear flavors that are obviously quite firmly structured on the serious, austere and backward finish that is hugely long, indeed it's the longest wine in the entire line-up. That said, it is classic young Bonnes Mares and it will not be a wine given to making friends in its youth. Don't miss!
Producer
Maison Nicolas Potel

Nicolas grew up amongst the vineyards of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or where his father was winemaker and part owner for years. Unfortunately, Burgundy vineyards cost more than gold, so when Nicolas decided to set out on his own, he realised that the only feasible way would be to buy grapes from other producers and work as a négociant. He differs from others in the region in that most of his grapes now come from only 8 domaines that he manages himself. As a result, he is able to grow the grapes according to his specifications. Being a perfectionist, his parameters include organic farming methods as well as notably small yields.
Region
Bonnes Mares
Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
