Goedhuis, May 2005, Score: -
We were massively impressed by this brilliant wine, which showed as appealing and approachable as its stable mate Leoville Las Cases showed restrained and aloof. The fruit is slightly exotic and the texture ripe and seductive. This excellent wine has, in our view, been consistently better than many classed growths. 2004 is no exception. Highly recommended. Robert Parker, June 2006, Score: 87-89
One of Bordeaux's top second wines, the 2004 Clos du Marquis exhibits crunchy, juicy, red cherryand currant fruit along with notions of herbs and spice box. Well-made, medium-bodied, elegant, and reminiscent of its bigger sibling, it should age well for 10-15 years. Drink 2006-2021

Jancis Robinson, April 2005, Score: 16.5
Dark, bright purple. Very floral, aromatic, supple and rather gorgeous. Sophisticated – acidity a bit pronounced – but good density of ripe fruit, suggestion of bitumen but nothing exaggerated. Lots of relatively supple fruit for a wine from the Delon/Las Cases stable. Very well integrated tannins. Quite good but could probably have been better if selection had been a bit harsher.Drink 2010-16
Producer
Clos du Marquis
Clos du Marquis was first created in 1904 as a "brand", a second wine to Léoville Las Cases whichwould absorb the barrels not deemed fine enough for the grand vin. Over time it became a wine inits own right and since 1989 has been produced from separate parcels which lie outside Léoville LasCases' main vineyards.
Region
St Julien
St Julien is like the middle child of the Médoc - not as assertive as Pauillac or as coquettish as Margaux. It lies firmly between the two more outspoken communes and as a result produces a blend of them both. St Julien's wines have often been sought out by aficionados for their balance and consistency, particularly in the UK. Yet due to its middle child nature, it can occasionally be overlooked globally and as a result underrated by those markets outside the UK. Despite the fact that it has no first growths, it has several second growths including Léoville Las Cases, Léoville Barton, Léoville Poyferré and Ducru Beaucaillou as well as the celebrated châteaux such as Talbot and Beychevelle.
