Tasting Notes

  • AM

    Allen Meadows,
    Score: 89

This too has a touch of wood spice framing naturally spicy and exceptionally expressive aromas of violets, plum, anise and a background note of kirsch that gives way to rich, explosive and wonderfully intense full-bodied flavors that seem to last for several minutes. This is one seriously long wine yet I found the finish to be somewhat drying and quite austere if not severe and while the structure will need at least a decade to resolve, I'm not completely certain that the fruit will hold to see the tannins through to their resolution. My scores offers the benefit of the doubt though I would caution those readers who purchase this wine to check in on it around age 6 to see whether it should be held further or drunk.

Producer

Domaine Pierre Damoy

The domaine boasts impressive Grand Cru holdings, especially the 5.6 hectares of Chambertin Clos de Bèze, making them its largest owner. The wines are rich and true to the styles of each vineyard.

Region

Chambertin

Gevrey Chambertin lies well to the north of the Cote de Nuits. It has no less than 9 grand cru vineyards and the most famous of these is Chambertin. Often considered the greatest of all red Burgundies for its complexity, power and intensity, Chambertin's fine wines are unsurprisingly rare and are priced accordingly. They also need years to develop to their full potential, but are undoubtedly worth the wait.
