  • Jancis Robinson, January 2007, Score: 16

Very, very deep blackish crimson. Good, lively scent. Full, round, deep flavoured. A very good effort from this revived property. Satin texture though dry at the end.

  • Wine Spectator, March 2004, Score: 91

Impressive depth of fruit and character on the nose the minute you give it a whiff. Blackberries, light vanilla, flowers, spices. Full-bodied, with excellent tannins that caress your palate. Best after 2007. 3,830 cases made. -JS

Producer

Château Ferrière

Ch Ferrière is undoubtedly one of the least known of all the classified growths. One reason for this may may be due to its size. It is tiny by Bordelais standards at only 8 hectares. Despite its Lilliputian measurements, its reputation superseded its size qualifying it as a Third Growth in 1855.

Region

Margaux

Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
