  • Robert Parker, June 2000, Score: 94

This is another Lynch Bages that has never gone through an awkward, disjointed stage where it completely shut down. The color remains a dense ruby with some lightening at the edge. Thick, juicy, succulent notes of creme de cassis intermixed with dried herbs, vanillin, minerals, and anise leap from the glass. Fleshy and full-bodied, with the vintage's voluptuous texture and low acid, fruit/glycerin-dominated flavors well-displayed in its full-bodied personality, this wine tastes young, but isalso ready to drink. Drink 2000-2015

  • Jancis Robinson, July 2002, Score: 18/20

Very, very deep crimson. Still quite youthful colour. Very ripe and minerally. Quite brawny. Very aromatic. Very, very full, ripe and attractive. Glossy. Explosively ripe. Drink now-2012

  • Clive Coates, September 2002, Score: 18/20

Fullish, vigorous colour. Youthful, rich, concentrated and very lovely on the nose.Deep rich Cabernet. More exotic and lessclassy than Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Fullishbody. Ripe, rich and spicy. Very goodtannins. Very good grip. This is very lovely.Fine plus. Drink Now-2015+

Château Lynch-Bages

If any château in all of the classified growths consistently outperforms its original status, it is Lynch Bages. Region

Pauillac

Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
