Goedhuis recommends: August 2018
August is a month when many people escape on holiday, but for those lucky enough to be staying at home and basking in this glorious heat, we have put together a very fine selection of wines that will keep you cool and your thirst quenched.
Our stalwart St Baillon Rosé is £10.83 per bottle and remains an unbeatable wine for the price - offered in all formats. The three whites chosen are fresh, crisp and mineral. These are wines that have seen no oak at all and whether a Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre, or a Vernaccia from the hill town of San Gimignano in Tuscany is preferred, they deliver wonderful value and we can’t recommend them more highly.
The three red wines are built on their red fruit profile. They are elegant, pure wines with soft tannins and an abundance of concentration. One could consider chilling the Fleurie, perfect for long lunches. If the Riedel Pinot Noir glasses need an outing then we can’t recommend this beautiful Mercurey from one of the top domaines in the region more highly. Finally the Black Quail Pinot Noir is an exceptional example of the outstanding 2013 vintage in New Zealand.
